Questions

What is a skill?

A folder with a SKILL.md file: a name, a one-line description and instructions, sometimes with scripts and templates.

Your agent reads only the descriptions at first, and opens a skill in full when your request needs it, so installed skills cost little context.

Which agents can use them?

Claude Code and Codex read the same SKILL.md format, and so do Cursor and a growing list of other agents. One install usually works in several tools.

A repo may hold one skill or a hundred. Its stars rate the repo, not each skill inside it.

Can I install a skill as a Claude Code plugin?

Yes, when the repo publishes a plugin marketplace. Add it inside Claude Code, then choose what to install from /plugin.

Can I install a skill by hand?

Copy the folder that holds SKILL.md into your agent's skills folder, then restart the agent.

Are these skills safe?

They are open-source projects by their own authors, not ADMOV products. A skill can run commands on your computer, so read it before you install it.
